Great article. I have always loved working at small companies. My first job after college was a small biz, but toxic as the owner. My 2nd was awesome. Small woman-owned biz and it was just she and I. Grew it to 20+ people before leaving. Always loved the small biz atmosphere, wearing many hats, figure out HOW to do something with few people, always having something to do. I have my own small biz (for now) and am still energized getting this done with a small high-performance team.

You also learn a lot at a small company as you HAVE TO. And no one can hide "at their desk" and fly under the radar. Those that do not perform stick out and work themselves out of a job. You also get long lasting friends. I know I have. Even as I have moved companies over the last 20+ yrs.
